Long Time No Post!

Why...you may ask? Well, the summer caught up to me BIG TIME! Too much lounging, chilling, vacationing all while acquiring an ill-fated 9 to 5. Now, I've decided to go back to grad school so I can pass my infinite knowledge on to future generations! So, in addition to all the new goodies I've been working on for the shop I now have to wow the admissions review board...and I'm probably moving back to Brooklyn. A lot, I know...but it's just another day in the life of an artist with too many ideas and not enough time. ...and on that note, I'm off to spend the next six hours in front of my computer. Yessssss...

Feeling a Bit Bookish Lately...

So between the real world drama and the art world drama I've been busier than I have been in a long time! I'm working on new ideas and products for the shop, as well as a book, or two...or three! Yes! You heard me right! I will most definitely be self-publishing...because I'm impatient...but I also plan to shop them around to publishers. I do live in New York...maybe I know someone who knows someone who knows someone...

...but all work and no fun does not a happy Kimmy make! I took time to go see the new Potter flick at Union Square with two great friends.

We knew it was major, but there were massive lines to get into each individual theater...and this line was for people who already had tickets, just so they could get the best seats! I always thought I was a serious sci-fi/ action/ fantasy geek. Apparently not. I've got some dorking up to do!

P.S. The movie was flawless...but you already knew that!

OMG! So MUCH!

Design jobs, paintings, shows, shows, shows, fairs, life...and then? ...the beautiful computer, one of many high points in my life CRAPS OUT AGAIN. AGAIN? Fourth time guys...but guess what? I'm still a Mac. Why you ask? ...it's like asking why you're a brunette. You just are. It's in your blood! Well, I've got my baby back home now and it's time to put a LOT of stuff in order! Won't be much longer now! P.S. More shows this weekend...trips to Williamsburg and Long Island in the works...pics to come!

A Little Over Occupied...

So yeah. The irony is through my being over productive in real life, I have actually taken longer than I would like to fill you guys in on the doings and happenings! I just spent 3 hours on the couch in a LOST coma, and I'm ready to rejoin the world of the living.

Ok, so...updates!

A really good friend of mine is moving back to town and is very excited to see my work in person. I'm pretty sure he's on the way to becoming a loved patron...and I can't wait to get his girlfriend on board with my artiness!

The lil' Ginnips are STILL being sewn together as it's taken me forever and a day to get my craft area together...but hey, at least I've gotten the sewing machine off the floor and onto the actual craft table! HA!

...and I will have pics of the fine art pieces I've started up real real soon. Real real soon.

In the meantime...enjoy some scenic shots of Long Island City overlooking the East River. It's so beautiful you almost forget it's the East River. HA!

Happy Wednesday!

It's A New Season!

So...here I am again. Ravaged by allergies and working nonetheless! I just had my first art market, the Astoria Spring Fling Market...and I did pretty well! Some eager customers went home with little GINNIP goodies all their own and I was so happy to be able to meet my customers face to face. If I could do this every weekend, I would! Actually...that's the new plan! I'm gonna try to hit the show circuit and spread the word about GINNIP! Here are some pics from the show...

This picture features my friend and lovely assistant Mayo, who is an amazing artist himself!

I can say there is no better feeling that getting the reaction of customers face to face. I love to see people pleased with my work! Although I didn't get to finish the lil' Ginnips, I made a LOT of other stuff that I just added to my Etsy shop this Monday! The dollies and a whole bunch of other plush are on the way, so stay tuned! Hopefully these pesky allergies will go away soon...I miss running at full speed! Regardless...I'm still running! Until we meet again...

Tuesday Night Crafties

So yeah. I have the Tuesday night "Crafties". I assume you could get the crafties any night of the week, but today was a particularly beautiful day in New York...and the neighborhood was full of color. It inspired me to get started on the little ones...

I swear. These have been on my mind for months! I'm so happy to finally have them started. They will be all be tidied up and ready to go for the fair on Sunday, AND added to my Etsy shop. I have more magnets, cards, moleskines, journals and prints in the works too...but that's for another post!

I can't believe I'm not tired...it must have been the iced coffee...and the crafties...

Another Manic Monday...

So...what do I have planned for Monday...hmm, let's see...

I've got a date with the gym, I have to take a trip out to Long Island, buy more supplies and then it's back home to prepare goodies for the Astoria Spring Fling Market. From what I know of this market it is the first Indie Market in Astoria Queens, which makes it extra special!

I have to get going, but in the meantime...here's a glamour shot of "Obamaniac".

Happy Monday!

Back On Track!

Oh my, oh my! How long it's been! I went into the city to retrieve my baby from the doc and she's feeling nice! While she was away, I got an iPod Touch and attended my first gallery opening for my first show in Long Island City! Whew! In-between all this I've been working really really hard on building product for the artist fair I will be in this month...my first! by the way.

The show, entitled "Zeitgeist 2009", is now up at Art-O-Mat Gallery in Long Island City. Here are some pics from the show:

There were so many people at the show, but I guess in all the mayhem, I didn't take out my camera as much as I thought I had. I will have to search my digi cam for more pics...

...and if you look at the pics from the last post you can compare them to the pic of the finished painting above. Like I mentioned in the other post, it kind of happens as it happens and I'm really happy about how it happened! HA!

...aaaand besides everything else, I'm back in the gym. Uy. More soon!

Oh Boy..Oh Boy...

So, as I'm getting ready for my first fair...and a group show in Long Island City, the screen on my computer develops a rather intrusive white bar running right down the middle! *pfft!* I just got the screen fixed a few months ago. I'm off to the Mac Store on 5th Avenue today to have a "Genius" tell me what the dilly is. Hopefully it's a free fix...but either way I probably won't have my comp for a whole week! What shall I do! I have quite a few Moleskines to list...and cute lil' magnets too! *pfft* I guess it'll all have to wait till I get the comp back. Between the fair and the show, I've been completely swamped.

...but here's a sneak peak of the rather large piece for the gallery show.

It's coming along pretty well, but I rarely sketch...so this is a totally organic experience. The pieces create themselves. They pretty much tell me what they're going to be. I just wield the brush!

I will be sure to post updates to all of the happenings coming up in the next few weeks! Hopefully I can get online before Saturday!

Enjoy your Holidays and the week to come!

P.S. Pray for my Macbook.

A Little Under The Grey Weather...

So yeah. I've been feeling a little crappy for the last few days...but it's nothing a little soup and crafting wont fix up! At least my PhotoEz came in and I was able to make a great stencil along with the cutest new Moleskine! The Moleskines (and other related projects) will be added to my shop this week!

See you soon!

Clouds on a cloudy day...

Well, my Photo Ez just came in Friday afternoon, but it was very cloudy and rainy in New York today, so I guess my experiments will hate to wait. :(

...in the meantime I started working to package my little lovelies from my last post and managed to print some of these, inspired by this rainy day:

Ah...I love Moleskines! So convenient and pocket sized. The illustration is in reference to the optimism we all must keep in our hearts right now...and I must admit that I've kept one for myself. I couldn't help it! They're up at the shop right now...and lookin' good. Happy Saturday!

Magnetic Appeal

So, as I wait for my presents from the post, I've been drawing like crazy, writing down ideas and busting out these little goodies.

I hope to have them in my shop by tonight...granted my little photo shoot goes well. Cross my fingers!

A Slight Bit Flighty...

I was featured this month on a great blog called Kiirey that devotes itself to finding beauty in art and craft! I was actually featured under my other shop name Gordonica. The Blue Peacock piece featured became a building block for GINNIP!

...and my Photo Ez hasn't come as yet. *pfft* Stay tuned...

A Curious Case Indeed...

A friend loaned me The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I have to say that this movie appealed to me in every sense possible. I was left wanting nothing. Some criticized Brad Pitt's supposed lack of emotion, but I understood his approach to the part of Benjamin. There's a kind of sadness and depth that he injects into the role, and after seeing the whole movie through, you understand why. It all comes together beautifully, and is based out of beautiful New Orleans. This movie, to me, is a win/ win situation. I wholeheartedly recommend! *sniffle, sniffle...*

Etsy Front Page!

There's my lil' couple. Blue, but...not so much today! teehee...

P.S. Three posts in one day? I'm on a roll!

Gocco Lives!

Well...it lives if you want it too. I was extremely dismayed to learn that the whole Gocco Empire had crumbled. Those that hold onto the few remaining pieces of what once was are selling them at a pretty penny.

So...me being me...I had to look for alternatives to panicking! I started to Google like crazy and found some great ideas! The easiest and most affordable solution I've found is PhotoEz.

There are so many ways you can use these... with a Gocco machine or as a straight up silkscreen. I've just ordered some sheets to try, and I post updates with my experiments and process!

Heehee.

Branching Out!

So here I am...ready to start this part of the journey through my Handmade life! Welcome to the new blog for GINNIP! I'm so excited to start this adventure and I hope to have as many on board with me as I can gather. I can't wait to see the evolution of this blog!

More to come...

P.S. In the meantime, you can find me on Twitter!
